There are probably American publication I could have linked to, but I found out via the BBC. They have links to other news sources to the right of their article, and I went to the Guardian from there.
Her version of “Wade in the Water” is always on my iPod.

On what is promised as the first of several looks at the difficulties facing MOCA, a roundtable conversation on these problems was presented on KCRW today. KCRW’s General Manager, Ruth Seymour, moderated the conversation. The guests were Christopher Knight, Lari Pittman, Dean Valentine and Dennis Szakacs.

I drew this last night as a test for how a large area of white work. It is 9 X 16 inches like the paintings.
The bright white compact florescence bulb that I paint under has expired. This would be a better story if I knew when I installed it. It has definitely lasted much longer than conventional light bulbs. Initially it dimmed, then dimmed some more, causing me concern that my eyes were too tired or that the power was failing (not that that makes any sense), flickered and went out somewhat softly. Now I am sitting in the dark and wondering if I have a replacement bulb. I probably don’t because of the promise of and fulfillment of the long life of the product. I would estimate the bulb was on for 12+ hours a day. I guess I’ll go to bed and deal with this in the closer to noon side of the AM.

Here is the first drawing I did on black paper. I took the strategy of rendering the light instead of the dark.

For whatever reason, it is not so uncommon to find tangerines in stores with the leaves still attached. This is of interest to me because I was planning to go out to Riverside and pick apples. Before going, I found out that one is not allowed to remove anything except the apples and stem because apples won’t grow in that spot next year if too much is taken away. It is also the end of the season and there isn’t much left according to their website.
An obvious mashup—not a comparison but a chimera.

I have had a friend’s skull far too long. It has been sitting on a table next to my printer, and hasn’t moved since I took the pictures I posted at the beginning of summer. I just shot this, and I am hoping to return it to him as soon as possible. The image below is unedited; the one above it enjoys some touch ups.

I ran into a friend at the Norton Simon looking at the Vermeer on loan from the National Gallery on Monday. While we were talking he mentioned his favorite motif (I am not sure that is the right word)—water condensation on an apple with a candle. I used hot glue which takes the skin off apples when one makes a mistake. It also slightly browns the apple skin before it cools. I had considered making it on a different surface, but the dripping off the apple out weighs the minimal discoloration. These apples have lame stems. Something I’ll have to create in the painting.

More practical effects. 3 lemon rinds, 1 lemon.
