I ran into a friend at the Norton Simon looking at the Vermeer on loan from the National Gallery on Monday. While we were talking he mentioned his favorite motif (I am not sure that is the right word)—water condensation on an apple with a candle. I used hot glue which takes the skin off apples when one makes a mistake. It also slightly browns the apple skin before it cools. I had considered making it on a different surface, but the dripping off the apple out weighs the minimal discoloration. These apples have lame stems. Something I’ll have to create in the painting.
