Today’s Quote and an Unrelated Image

Possible Location

I meant to post this a few days ago.

I think I found a location to shoot some video of a gas station on my way back to LA, unfortunately it is a few hours north. It is good and generic and shouldn’t require any masking. There are a few gas stations around town that lack any signage, but haven’t seemed right.

Finally Got the Shot

Well, it took several attempts—OK the second attempt—to get the shots I wanted. While out taking pictures of flowers at night, I decided to see if the old pumps were unobstructed. They were so, I fired off some pictures.

Gas Stations

DSC_2574.jpg
Tonight, I went to shoot the old style Texaco pump depicted in a previous post to see how it appears at dark, but unfortunately it was obstructed. I knew there were some newer but still old pumps somewhat nearby. Adjacent to the newer old pumps, I found some equally old pumps—comparable to the Texaco pumps. After this, I decided to go and take some pictures of, at least in appearance, a new gas pump to round out the night. If this is a bit convoluted, I am including photos.

Spending Some Time with Photoshop

Time Travel

I went to Pasadena today to get some shipping boxes. On my way back to LA, I drove past this. Of course, it is not functional, and presumably it is kept for film shoots. Still it is quite tempting.

I normally write about my art and art related things

so this is a bit of an aside,

Everyone thinks they are above average drivers, and the person who drove past me tonight a little before 9 PM probably thinks that of him or herself.

I didn’t see the driver, mostly because my first notice of the car was being highbeamed when slowing for yellow light. The light turned red, and the driver behind me, in a Land Rover, crossed the double yellow line, entered the oncoming traffic lane and drove through the red light. Driving around late at night I have seen all sorts of bad driving that no one would do during the day, but this was somewhat amazing. The obvious lack of concern for others. There probably was a good reason for this bad behavior, a movie starting, a party to get to, important stuff.

Black and White, Sort of

I have a tentative plan to only make black and white paintings for a while. I am planning to cheat inasmuch as I plan to mix down colors to their grays. So I’ll technically be making chromatic paintings that seem black and white (achromatic). Here is a test—the top is grayed colors and the bottom is less grayed colors. There is still some work to go on these images, but I thought I’d post them anyway.

76 Ball

One benefit of ConocoPhillips replacing my best 76 ball situation (see previous post) is that I can do second versions of the videos I have been making. The only down side I can see is not taking some still images of the old ball with the new Nikon.
