I used the same model from the previous model posting, but this time I placed it upside down on a small light table.

I was recently asked why I was working on a portrait—something I don’t really do—and I answered, “for painting.” I am basically trying to learn about painting something without any straight lines. It doesn’t go with the new work. RIght now it is somewhere between gesso (some of the white is oil) and five layers (albeit very thin layers on and around the eyes). I don’t know when I’ll finish it, but I am planning on giving it as much time as it needs. As a student, I was told you can not fight a painting; you have to give it what it needs.

This model is almost done. I still need to build a permanent support for the light housing, but I was able to shoot this picture.

I followed a link from Claude Collins-Stracensky to a video from his project that was at the Hammer last fall. Despite going to their website for exhibition info on a regular basis, I had not looked at this part of the Hammer’s website before. Watch+Listen contains just that, videos and audio tracks of the exhibitions, lectures, readings and various goings on at the museum.
This video is from LACMA’s blog Unframed. I liked how she described the other high school football photographers’ reaction to her. Their comments or attitudes are understandable as she will not be capturing the frozen in-focus mid-air tackle, but—and this has nothing to do with what Opie was doing—why are there photographers at the practices?

I was surprised by the overall appearance of the various burgers. Although they are far from what a food stylist makes—and what is in the ads and store images—I was expecting much worse.

I forgot to post this earlier

— As I hoped, although part of the Fisher collection exhibition, a few Sigmar Polke’s are up on the 4th floor at the SFMOMA.
I put this video together to see how the cuts would look with another video in mind.

I really like Jack Goldstein’s work, so I am very glad the Orange County Museum of Art picked this show up, while MOCA’s canceling of this show is a let down. I guess I’ll have to spend a lovely summer’s day in Newport Beach two years from now. Maybe I’ll have lunch at the Galley.
