I went to Sunol, CA to see the Sunol Water Temple that was built by the Spring Valley Water Company in 1910 and later owned by the San Francisco Water District as it is today. The structure was built to enhance the companies profile as a public utilities. I am planning a body of work that looks at the conservation, use, and removal of water, and thought this was a good place to start.

I am close to completing a painting based off a model of a typical bus shelter. It is oil on canvas, 12.75 by 22.75 inches inches (two square feet in area).

Today is the last of my exhibition at Susanne Vielmetter.

I found some loose slides (the analog days) the other day. Among them was the repro. for this painting I finished in 2000. It is 34 by 43 cm, oil on canvas as I recall. I started it in 1996 and work on it on a regular basis—painting a layer and sanding it down—until 2000. Although I have worked on many paintings for over a year, I worked on this one the longest. I think I titled it Auto-Pilot as there is no one in the plane.

My exhibition at Susanne Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects ends on Saturday.

no title, oil on panel, 8 by 19 inches, 2011.
This is my most recent painting; it is destined (virtually) for the VIP Art Fair.

My exhibitions (and Joel’s) at Susanne Vielmetter has been extended by a week. It now closes on the 29th of January.

I recently received a camera lucida. Here are the first three drawings.

I want to thank everyone who braved the rain and made it to the opening last Saturday, especially those who stayed for the dinner which was delayed by the weather.
*a note on the previous post, it shows all the white walls in the two galleries in which my work is being shown. I we ended up showing 11 paintings, a notebook and video—from which the show’s title is derived.
