An Opening of the Field: Jess, Robert Duncan and Their Circle.
The Enamored Mage: Translation #6, 1965
Today was the last day for An Opening of the Field: Jess, Robert Duncan and Their Circle at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, was a very good show if for nothing else, the work of Jess. Showing a sampling from his oeuvre. His late work, for which he is best known, stand alone in their dense rich paint and colors. But there is a lot to look at in his early work. They don’t look dated. From washes to Clumps of paint, moving between figurative and abstraction in ways that artists are still mining.
